How It Works

What a Mobile Install Looks Like

A mobile installer arrives with the film pre-cut or a plotter in the van, a spray bottle, squeegees and a heat gun. They need a flat, shaded, wind-free spot, ideally a garage with the door down, and a couple of hours for a sedan. Film is applied wet to the inside of the glass, so the car has to sit still with the windows up for the rest of the day.

  • Good mobile jobs: side windows on a sedan, truck or SUV; front-window re-dos after a ticket; a second car while the first is being done; fleet vehicles at a business.
  • Jobs that belong in a shop: Tesla and EV glass roofs, large curved rear windows, old tint removal with steam, and anything in a dusty, windy or hot driveway.
  • The dust problem. Every speck between the film and the glass stays there forever. A closed garage is fine; an open driveway in July with the neighbor mowing is not.
  • Temperature. Film needs moderate temperatures to lay and cure. A 105° day on black asphalt is a bad mobile day; installers reschedule or ask for a garage.
The Money

What Mobile Adds to the Price

Most Sacramento installers charge a trip fee on top of the normal job price, and a few build it in. Expect roughly $30–$75 inside the metro, more for Elverta, Rio Linda or the foothills. Several vehicles at one address usually share one fee, which is why fleet work and a two-car household are the sweet spot for mobile.

JobTypical Range
Sedan, standard film, in a shop$150 – $300
Same job, mobile$180 – $375
Trip fee, Sacramento metro$30 – $75
Trip fee, outlying areas$50 – $100

Set It Up Right

Five Things to Have Ready

  • A garage, cleared and swept. Door down during the install. If you have no garage, a carport on a still day is the next best thing.
  • A clean car. Interior vacuumed, door panels wiped. Dust the installer does not have to fight is dust that does not end up under the film.
  • Water and power nearby. Most installers bring their own but a hose bib and an outlet save time.
  • The whole day. The car should stay parked with the windows up until the next morning. Do not plan a mobile install before a drive.
  • Your shade choice. Decide the rear shade before the visit; the fronts will be a legal light film regardless. The California tint rules explain why.
Common Questions

Mobile Tinting FAQs

Is mobile tint as good as shop tint?

For side windows in a clean garage, yes, if the installer is good. For glass roofs and big rear windows, a shop with a controlled space is better. The installer, not the location, is what matters most.

Can you tint my car at work?

Yes, if there is a covered, still spot and the car can stay parked afterward. Open parking lots in summer are the worst case for dust and heat; ask the installer before booking.

Do mobile installers do homes too?

Residential film is always installed on site, so every home job is “mobile”. The trip fee usually applies only to vehicles.

How do I find a mobile installer in my area?

Call (916) 713-7307 and say where you are and what you drive. You will be matched with an installer who covers your area, including Elk Grove, Antelope and Rio Linda.
